Nonprofits and City Agencies

Thank you for providing volunteer opportunities to Workforce Volunteer participants. It is estimated that in Alexandria,  107 SNAP Participants and 3,954 Medicaid Recipients will be impacted by the new work requirements.  The new SNAP requirements are currently rolling into effect, and the Medicaid requirements go into effect in January 2027.  We are working hard now to ensure we have a process in place for all impacted residents who wish to volunteer to fulfill requirements.  Download the Nonprofit Guide Sheet here.

1. Is your organization already registered with Volunteer Alexandria? Browse our partner organizations. If you have an account but cannot access it, contact our support team.

2.  If you're not yet registered, become a partner to access our portal and post volunteer opportunities.

3. Log into your Dashboard. One Dashboard is shared across all registered admins from your organization.

4. Create Volunteer Opportunity posts. Templates are available to guide you.

5. To ensure your Workforce Volunteer opportunities are highlighted on our Workforce Volunteer Opportunities page, select YES for “Is this opportunity open to Workforce Volunteers?

6. Opportunities can be created as Date & Time Specific OR Individually Scheduled.  We strongly recommend creating Date & Time Specific Volunteer Opportunities. For example, "Sort Clothing from 2-4pm on Saturday the 12th".  Individually Scheduled opportunities require additional coordination.  Read more about the differences on your Dashboard.

7. All opportunities are reviewed by Volunteer Alexandria staff within 1-2 business days. Once approved, they become active in the database.

8. As volunteers register, the Opportunity Leader receives notifications. Additionally, all registrations can be tracked in the Dashboard and are downloadable for reference during volunteer events.

9. After the volunteer opportunity occurs, the Opportunity Leader is prompted to confirm attendance in a process referred to as verifying hours. We ask that hours are verified within 3 business days of the volunteer event. Workforce Volunteers may be required to provide verification of compliance with the new federal requirements to access SNAP/Medicaid.

10. Workforce Volunteers have access to their own Dashboard, where they can track hours served and download a summary to share with supervisors.

11. Use your Dashboard to access Reports, including summaries of all your volunteers and their hours served.

For additional support, consult the training links in your Dashboard.
