Each month, Volunteer Alexandria provides information for over 30+ volunteer opportunities, projects, and events in partnership with nonprofits, schools, neighborhoods, and local government. Projects focus on critical issues in the community and these areas include, but are not limited to: homelessness/hunger; people living with disabilities; seniors; tutoring/literacy, children and families; renovation/affordable housing; and community emergency preparedness and disaster volunteer training.

It varies for each volunteer opportunity. Be sure to pay attention to the minimum age requirements posted for each opportunity, project or event. Parents and guardians simply need to register for the volunteer opportunity, project, or event that you want to attend with your children 15 and under. 

Please note: Due to the Children’s Online Privacy Act of 1998, children must be at least 13 years old to create an online account.

 

It is entirely up to you! Our goal is to make volunteering easy for everyone to fit into their busy schedule, so we offer volunteer opportunities with varying commitment levels. You can volunteer as much or as little as you would like, based on your schedule. Please read each volunteer opportunity, project or event carefully to ensure that you are aware of the time commitment, if any for each activity.

 

Click on “Find an Opportunity” in the horizontal menu bar to find volunteer opportunities, projects, or events that may be of interest to you. You have the option of searching for opportunities that match your interests, skills, geographic area, or just browse for everything that is available. Once you see an opportunity, project, or event you to participate in or attend, click “Sign Me Up/Register.” You will receive an email with the address, directions, contact information for your project, any other special instructions. You will also receive a reminder email a few days before, as well a post-project feedback email.

 

If you find that you cannot attend a project or event, please re-visit your confirmation email. In it, you will find a link that you can click to unregister yourself and free up your space for another volunteer.
