All ages:
Join Volunteer Alexandria in the Scottish Christmas Walk Parade! -- Help us promote civic engagement and volunteerism on Saturday, December 6, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. by walking alongside our team. You may carry a sign showing your support for volunteerism and represent the power of community action.
12 and older:
Miracle League of Alexandria "Angels in the Outfield" Buddy Volunteers -- Be an Angel for a day and assist players by running for them or pushing wheelchairs. Multiple opportunities are available between April and May 2026.
Organize the People's Pantry -- Check in residents, restock shelves, and assist with food donations. This is an ongoing opportunity.
13 and older:
Advocate for Better Policies -- Learn how policies are made, share ideas, monitor legislation, and become an advocate on SAPCA's Policy and Advocacy Committee.
Create Videos for a Drug-free Alexandria -- Help film, edit, and produce videos with the Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition of Alexandria's (SAPCA) Video Development and Production Committee.
Serve Hot Meals on Saturdays -- Prep and serve lunch at Meade Church!
14 and older:
Sort Packages for Materials Masters (Stuff the Bus) -- Prepare for events by opening, sorting, and packaging at United Way! Volunteers must be able to lift heavy boxes. This event takes place on January 20 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Sort and Distribute at Toys for Tots Drive -- Bring smiles to children by helping out at UNCUT Youth's 3rd Toys for Tots Holiday Giveaway. Sort packages on Friday, December 12, and distribute packages on Saturday, December 13.
The Harvest Food Ministry -- Serve 100+ families by bag-filling, boxing/unboxing, walking clients to their vehicles, and breaking down materials. Choose from multiple days at Groveton Baptist Church in December.
Join a City Board -- The City of Alexandria is looking for high school students to fill board seats on the following committees: Gang Prevention Community Task Force, Children, Youth, and Families Collaborative Commission, the Commission on HIV/AIDS, Parks and Recreation Commission, and the George Washington Birthday Celebration Parade.
15 and older:
Distribute Gifts at the Lee Center -- Check in Sponsors, families, and help families load into their vehicles! Opportunities are on December 8, 9, and 10.
16 and older:
Sort Toys for the VolAlx Toy Drive -- Assist us in the 2025 toy drive! Empty boxes, sort them into age groups, and count items.
Become a Bicycle Mechanic -- No experience is necessary! Vélocity Bicycle Cooperative is looking for anyone interested in learning how to fix bikes.
Classical Music Usher -- Usher for concerts at the Alexandria Symphony Orchestra, then view the concert once they're seated.
Coach with Girls on the Run -- Spread positivity and inspire groups of girls from 3rd to 8th grade as they run! This is an ongoing opportunity, and training is provided.
Delivering Groceries to Seniors -- Help Senior Services of Alexandria get groceries to those in need.
Staff the 4 Mile Run Farmers and Artisans Market -- On Sunday, November 23 and Sunday, December 7, set up the market and make sure vendors are ready to go, greet shoppers, assist with events as needed, and close down the market.
Improve Language Skills for Refugee Students -- Help improve writing, reading, and speaking skills of Afghan refugee students at either Alexandria City High School or Francis C. Hammond Middle School after school.
Do It Yourself Projects:
Support the Animal Shelter -- You can support the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria by completing projects at home. Support can include making portraits, cutting food, decorating bags, creating blankets, and more. Donations can be dropped off at the shelter. At-home projects are eligible for service hours.
