Update on Afghan Refugees in our area
The Virginia Department of Emergency Management is providing supplies for the Afghan refugees in our area. While we have collected items and delivered them, we are now on hold and are awaiting additional information. People interested in getting involved should connect with Lutheran Social Services and Catholic Charities.
The City of Alexandria is asking everyone to wear a mask in public indoor spaces, whether vaccinated or not. This follows updated guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) that everyone should wear masks in indoor public settings in communities of substantial or high transmission.VolAlex follows these guidelines and in addition, encourages people to still wear a mask while donating time. And, please check with each organization what their policies are for volunteers being vaccinated. Most organizations and the school system are requiring people to be fully vaccinated and/or tested on a weekly basis.
Volunteer Alexandria inspires and mobilizes people, six years and older, to volunteer for a stronger Alexandria community. Our Volunteers are a powerful force for solving community problems, and are essential for a healthy, productive, and engaged community.
