Macroinvertebrate Monitoring - Taylor Run
Join the City of Alexandria's Stormwater Management Division for a hands-on stream science experience at Taylor Run. Volunteers will collect and identify aquatic insects and other small organisms to help assess the health of the stream and the watershed.
We’ll be using simple field sampling equipment, including kick nets, trays, forceps, magnifiers, and dichotomous keys to collect and identify aquatic macroinvertebrates directly from the stream. These organisms are key indicators of water quality, so studying them helps us understand the overall health of the river and track changes in pollution over time.
No prior experience is required; training and all materials are provided. This is a great opportunity to learn about local waterways while contributing to meaningful environmental monitoring!
This is a great opportunity for youth ages 14+.
Age Minimum (with Adult): 14+, Minimum Age:14+
