Become a Volunteer Lead for Emergencies
Become a volunteer lead for emergencies in Alexandria!
When disaster strikes, Volunteer Alexandria works with the city and other emergency response agencies in operating a Volunteer Reception Center (VRC). During and after an emergency, volunteers need to be processed, quickly trained, and deployed. The VRC is an operational entity that screens, processes, places, and accounts for unaffiliated volunteers.
We are looking for volunteers who want to step up and help the community when the unthinkable happens. As a volunteer lead, you will learn:
· The roles and responsibilities needed.
· How to effectively manage a Volunteer Reception Center.
· Specific skills needed in various situations including natural and man-made disasters.
Trainings will be held over an 8-week period, once a week for up to 3 hours. Sessions include basic orientation (in-depth learning of the VRC), tabletop exercises (to practice/analyze the roles and responsibilities), full-scale exercises, and more! Previous emergency management experience is not required.
Please complete the following courses: FEMA's online IS 100, 200, 700, and 800.
