Community Toy Drive & Distribution 2024
Dates: 10/31/2024 - 12/14/2024
Each year, hundreds of local children need toys, books, and learning games. Since 2014, VolALX has hosted a community toy drive to support the children in Alexandria and we need your help. Our goal is to serve over 700 children this year, aged 0 - 10-year-olds with NEW UNWRAPPED toys. The toy drive starts on November 11 and ends on December 13.
This year, we’re thrilled to host our annual Toys4ALX Toy Drive at a new site at Fairlington Methodist Church, welcoming volunteers to help bring holiday cheer to hundreds of Alexandria families. We kindly ask that all volunteers show respect and flexibility throughout the event. Because this drive relies entirely on volunteer support, it’s essential that everyone who confirms their participation shows up on event day—no-shows impact the success of our operation. Join us in making this holiday season brighter!
Volunteers MUST be free of flu/cold symptoms and MUST register for any of the following positions:
Helpers (Holiday Shopping Assistance) to assist families in shopping as we distribute toys on Friday 5-7:30 pm and Saturday 11 am-4 pm.
Translator Helpers (Amharic and Spanish Speaking) will support adults who are shopping for their children. If translation services are not needed, volunteers will assist families while they are shopping.
Helpers (Holiday Shopping Vehicle Loading) to assist families in carrying toys to their vehicles on Friday and Saturday. Must be able to lift and carry 20 pounds.
Pick Up Toys from Collection Sites on Wednesday, December 11th and Thursday, December 12th to pick up toys from various locations.
Table Captain to stock the tables with toys according to each shift and assist adults in picking out gifts. Volunteers will keep the tables organized and clean to create a great shopping experience.
Toy Sorter and Shop Set Up on Thursday and Friday between 10 am and 3:30 pm.
Volunteers ages 16 and up will sort and count toys. Volunteers will empty all bags and boxes, sort by age groups, and then count items, as well as help set up as needed.
Traffic Control Volunteers will direct traffic and unload toy donations. Your support ensures a smooth drop-off for families donating to the drive.
