Gardening with Children in Subsidized Housing

If you think you'd like to grow veggies with growing kids, come join a group of 5 to 8 year olds in Tancil Court's "I Can Shine Garden" -- part of the Alexandria Redevelopment and Housing Authority's Old Town project. We meet on Thursdays at 5 p.m. While the children grow their peas, potatoes, beans, tomatoes, squash, and lots more, they also learn how to eat healthy. Knowing how to grow good food and prepare it is a life skill with lots of benefits. Plus it helps build children's knowledge base, which in turn can make them better readers!  Volunteers need not have any prior vegetable garden experience.
