Food & Grocery Volunteer
Feeding Those in Need in Alexandria
For over 18 years, the Meade Memorial Episcopal Church has been committed to its Outreach Ministry, specifically the Emergency Food Assistance Ministry, which aims to transform our community, support our neighbors, and enrich our own lives.
Bag Lunch Distribution: Every Weekday (Monday through Friday)
The church provides lunches to residents from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. We need volunteers to help clean the floor, set up tables, distribute lunches, and tidy the lunch space, including taking out the trash, excluding certain holidays.
We ask all volunteers to arrive by 10:00 a.m. and plan to leave no later than 2:00 p.m. Please remember that you are coming to the House of God, so appropriate dress is appreciated—please avoid short shorts and midriff attire.
Grocery (Pantry) Distribution (Thursdays)
Although Old Town Alexandria may not seem like a community in need, the reality is different. To address this need, we have partnered with ALIVE!, the City of Alexandria’s food bank, to provide groceries for those in need.
Food shipments arrive on Tuesday mornings, which requires light lifting from our church courtyard to the church hall. After the shipment arrives, volunteers will help unpack, sort, and stock our pantry shelves. Pre-packed grocery bags for distribution will be prepared on Wednesday mornings.
The grocery bags are distributed on Thursdays, so please plan to arrive by 10:00 a.m. and stay until around 1:30 p.m. Any remaining items will be distributed on Fridays.

Available one day a week: Thursday from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. The food pantry is open all week (Monday to Friday ) from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
