VRC Summer Camp Skills classes

We all need to work on our skills from time to time, but that doesn't mean boring. Summer makes you want to do fun things to learn stuff? These Summer Camp classes are open to non-VRC-trained community members with an interest in Disaster and Emergency Preparedness.

These classes will focus on the skills, activities, and role play for the other training classes we have done, PLUS, new fun ways to reinforce your training, thinking outside of the box, and creative problem-solving. All sessions are held 6-8 p.m. in various locations in Alexandria.

• Parking Lot and Table Games, August 20, 6-8 p.m.
  • In this session, we will play some skills-based games, then build new games designed to focus on critical thinking in disaster situations. (zip 22304)
• Radio Tag/Communication Games, August 26, 6-8 p.m.
  • Clear communication is a necessity in disaster and emergency situations. Join us to practice radio communication through games using 2-way radios. (zip 22304)
• Family Feud/Trivia (Disaster Themed), August 31, 6-8 p.m.
  • How much do you know about disasters? Emergency Response? Emergency Preparedness? Join us for Game Night, where we will play Family Feud and Jeopardy, where all of the categories are based on FEMA, ICS, and Disasters. (zip 22304)

• Disaster Games/Build a Better Disaster
  • In this session, we will explore creating disaster scenarios for tabletop and functional exercises, and discuss training scenarios for a variety of disasters we may need to prepare and train for in the region.
