Bicycle Shop Customer Service

Velocity's retail shop at 2111 Mount Vernon Ave. is looking for volunteers to help:

• Greet customers.
• Ask if they need help.
• Direct them to items they're looking for.
• Return items to their appropriate locations.
• Unlock bikes for customers to test ride and lock bikes up afterwards.
• Put customers' bikes in repair stands (if you're able).
• Keep track of who's been waiting the longest.
• Take payments on Square.
• Thank customers for coming to Velocity.

Orientations to working at the shop are offered on select Saturdays, and other times can be arranged if needed.

Volunteering at a shop is a great way to support Velocity's mission of making cycling accessible and affordable. By supplementing Velocity's paid labor, you help keep the shop's prices low. The shops provide over 95% of Velocity's operating funds, so the work done there is vital to all of Velocity's programs.

Volunteering at the shop is not a good way to learn bicycle repair, since mechanics must focus on their own work. For volunteers who already have basic repair skills, mechanics may be able to guide quiet intervals, but the mechanics' primary responsibilities at the shops are helping customers and conducting repairs themselves.
