Children Fight Hunger by Making Sandwiches

We invite children between ages 8 and 12 years old to prepare up to 75 peanut butter & jelly sandwiches. The sandwiches will then be donated to a local food pantry and shelter.
Children, using gloves, will prepare the sandwiches, assemble, and individually package them. Children should wear their hair pulled back and under a baseball cap or other full hair covering, such as a bandana/scarf or hair net. They should wear clothing they don't mind getting dirty. Due to space constraints, we ask that parents wait in the sitting area. VolALX will manage this project and guide the children, as well as lead a discussion on volunteerism, giving, and hunger.
Please note, this project involves working with peanut and wheat products in an environment that prepares food with milk, eggs, soy, tree nuts, peanuts, sesame, wheat & other cereal grains. Children with allergies and/or sensitivities to these products should discuss risks of exposure with their physicians before participating. While this is not for youth groups but for individual families, to register multiple children, please click "Sign up with a team" below.
About Hunger in Alexandria: Alexandria is one of the wealthiest parts of the United States, but an estimated 20% of Alexandrians can’t make ends meet. At least 13,320 residents of Alexandria, including 3,370 children under the age of 18, are food insecure, according to Feeding America. This means that many people can’t afford to put food on the table. Volunteer Alexandria has pledged their time to support the fight against hunger and joined the local Great Harvest Bread Company and Megan Hurst. Bread & space donated by Great Harvest Bread.
