Social Services Advisory Board Members (Alexandria, VA)

Alexandria, VA’s Social Services Advisory Board, established by Alexandria’s City Council, is part of a formal system of boards and commissions through which citizens can advise City Council. We’re looking for additional members and want you to join us!

 

The Social Services Advisory Board:

  • Interests itself in all matters pertaining to the social welfare of the people of the City, including issues such as public housing and adolescent mental health, and serves as the public welfare advisory board of the City;
  • Monitors the formulation and implementation of social welfare programs in the City, including the city’s Guaranteed Income Program;
  • Advises City officials on public welfare and day care issues; and
  • Submits to City Council an annual report and other reports that the Board believes to be of interest and concern to the City.

 

The Board meets once per month for 1-2 hours. Approximately 4 hours per month are required of Board members. Over the past year, the Board Board has worked on critical issues impacting the City of Alexandria and its residents, including youth and family support, City employee compensation and benefits, and housing affordability.
