SERVE-a-thon with the National Park Service

Come join us for invasive plant removal on Daingerfield Island! Invasive species disrupt the ecosystem and invasive vines can lead to tree death if not treated. We plan on targeting woody invasive vines from native trees.
Volunteers will walk up to a half mile south on the Mount Vernon Trail to the project location, but may also work as close as the first parking lot. Volunteers will use hand tools including pruners, loppers and folding saws to cut through vines creating a "window" around each tree.
National Park Service staff will provide instructions, all necessary tools, work gloves, safety vest and supervision for this project.
What to wear: Check the forecast and dress for the weather. Wear long pants and sturdy closed-toe shoes that can get dirty. Long sleeves are recommended to avoid poison ivy. Wear sun protection such as sunscreen, hat, and/or sunglasses as personally desired.
What to bring: Bring your reusable water bottle. Your favorite pair of garden gloves (optional).
