CLOSED: Long Term Client Intake & Case Workers

The Alexandria Springfield Chapter of Project ID + Spread The Vote is looking for volunteers on an ongoing basis.
We provide financial and logistical assistance to those in need of a Virginia state ID, needed to access housing, food assistance, jobs and more. While helping clients get IDs we also register them to vote. Many are getting ready to vote for the very first time ever, or after a long time and we help them make a voting plan, request absentee ballots or get to early voting locations or the polls. We also assist clients who need their voting rights restored.
We currently need volunteers for:
Client Intakes - Call back clients who have requested or been referred to our service, talk them through the intake questions and fill out the intake form and getting a waiver to clients to sign and return.
Case Worker - Follow up with clients to assist in obtaining ID documents needed by the DMV to issue a state ID. This sometimes includes obtaining birth certificates, Social Security cards and other secondary proofs of ID and legal presence in the US. You will not be alone in figuring this out-We Will Train You and all our volunteers pitch in to answer questions and share information.
Spanish speakers and legal experts also needed.
TRAINING and SUPPORT PROVIDED, but experience with case management very welcome.
Volunteers are asked to commit at least 3 hours per week, to work around your schedule on an ongoing basis. Training is time consuming for our all-volunteer team and we need volunteers who plan to work with us for 6 months or more.
Many of our clients are experiencing homelessness and/or unemployment, reside in shelters or are returning citizens. Some have diminished capacity or handicaps. Volunteer candidates should be comfortable with clients from all walks of life and have patience in assisting them through what can sometimes be a frustrating bureaucratic process.
