Volunteer SOHO Mentors Needed to start this September
Be Someone Who Matters to Someone Who Matters!
SOHO is recruiting 24 adult female volunteer mentors to start this September.
Space of Her Own (SOHO) is an arts based mentoring program serving fifth grade girls in Alexandria. Mentors and girls meet once a week to enjoy dinner together and work on creative arts and carpentry projects. Art is the catalyst for helping open conversations and solidify strong bonds. Projects range from ceramics, clay animation and darkroom photography to constructing lamps and shelves. The projects allow each girl to express herself and many are used in spring bedroom/sleeping space transformations. Once mentors and girls complete the initial program year, they are invited to join SOHO Sisterhood and further develop their relationships throughout the girls' middle school years and beyond.
We have 2 programs for 5th graders, each operates from 5:30-8:00 p.m. during the school year, one on Tuesdays and the other on Wednesdays. A committment to long-term mentoring is required.
