Tutors needed for The reach and Rise Program (RARE) after school tutoring
Volunteers are needed to assist The Reach and Rise Program (RARE) after school tutoring and mentoring program. RARE serves 6th – 8th grade students at Francis C. Hammond Middle School four days a week (Monday through Thursday) from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM. The main focus of this volunteer position is to assist students as a math tutor in improving math skills. Students also engage in other enrichment opportunities. The Math Tutor works side-by-side with Certified Teachers to provide one-on-one, hands-on assistance to students. Volunteers may also engage students in English Literature and Reading. The reading Volunteer will work collaboratively with the English Literature and Reading Specialist. Students will engage in an interactive project based language and reading program which engages them in actual reading and comprehension exercises. Good organization and communication skills and ability to work independently, with young, middle school students and also with creative and passionate counterpart’s (fellow tutors), mentors, teachers, and other general non skilled based volunteers (parents or others able and willing to assist but lacking a specific degree) as a team member is a plus. Ability to audibly engage in reading and creatively engage students in discussion and response is important to this position.
