CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate)

Are you looking for an empowering and fulfilling volunteer experience? Becoming a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) volunteer is the right role for you!

The volunteer’s role is to be a Friend of the Court, an impartial observer, advocating on behalf of what is in the best interest of a child. CASA volunteers investigate the circumstances of a child involved in the Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court for reasons of abuse, neglect, custody, Child-in-Need-of-Services, and similar circumstances. The CASA volunteer investigates the facts of a child’s case, submits a written report to the court, recommends a course of action to the court, facilitates the resolution, and monitors progress towards that resolution.

Requirements:

  • Complete 39+ hours of pre-service training.
  • Commit to volunteer for a minimum of 12 months, which is the average length of time for a child’s case to be completed.
  • Commit to 10-20 hours per month, including visiting the child in person at least once per month.
  • Maintain records about the case, report progress to a CASA supervisor, and attend court hearings and other case-related meetings.
  • Maintain client confidentiality in accordance with state regulations.
