Volunteers and Holiday Gifts are Needed - There are many opportunities to get involved in your community. Volunteers are needed to assist with delivering meals, organizing holiday celebrations, wrap gifts, and much more. We are also seeking individuals, families, businesses, churches, and other groups to donate new toys, books, clothing, etc. to support families and individuals in need. Arms Outstretched Ministry, Inc. – Gift Wrapping Service Fundraiser, Now until December 24 - register HERE
Arms Outstretched Ministry is looking for volunteers to help with a gift Wrapping Fundraiser for their wounded warrior and “Adopt a Hero” program. The Gift Wrapping Service runs from December 1 - 24, 2013 at The Fashion Center at Pentagon City Mail, 1000 South Haynes Street, Arlington, VA with multiple dates and shifts available.
First Night Alexandria, Dec 31 - register HERE
Do you love fireworks, music and festive celebrations? Get involved in your community by helping First Night Alexandria throw the best family-friendly New Year's Eve party in the DC area! Old Town Alexandria shops, restaurants and historic buildings will host music, dance and children's performances on New Year's Eve with a midnight finale of fireworks on the river. Help at performance venues, sell entrance badges & answer questions, assist with Fun Hunt scavenger contest, coordinate volunteers and help everyone have the best-ever New Years Eve! Great for individuals, groups and families with teens 16+. Venue locations throughout the city. Shifts are available.
Holiday Sharing Christmas Donor – register HERE
Share your joy with others! Sponsor a family, foster child or senior/disabled individual and you'll receive a personalized wish list for the children in a low income family, a child in foster care (however, very few are available to be sponsored) or a senior/disabled person. Purchase gifts and deliver to the agency on December 15, 16, 17 or 18 or to the family or senior's home any time that week. (Gifts to foster children must be delivered to the agency.) Please include grocery gift card, if possible. Gift cards for Best Buy, Old Navy, Walmart, Target, etc. are also needed for foster teens.
SHARE THE SPIRIT – Now through December
Share the spirit of the season with The Holiday Project of the National Capital Area. Volunteer s are needed to make visits to people confined to hospitals, nursing homes, and long term Care facilities throughout the holiday season and on other special days throughout the year. Volunteers will bring the spirit of a holiday to those who otherwise might not have a celebration. Visits are now being organized throughout the metropolitan area. Would you like to be a Meals on Wheels volunteer and make a difference in a Senior's life? SSA is always looking for volunteers especially on the weekends. All they ask is that each volunteer commits to two (very satisfying) hours a month - that is just one morning of deliveries! And don't worry, they'll train you. Do you have a club or class that wants to volunteer together? Groups are welcome.
