In recognition of National Mentoring Month in January, the City of Alexandria and the Alexandria Mentoring Partnership (AMP) are hosting events spotlighting the city’s numerous mentoring programs and their efforts to guide youth and give back to the community. Throughout the month, AMP programs will host open houses, where the public can sit in on a mentoring program and learn about the staff, volunteers, and youth. Under the Alexandria Mentoring Partnership, 11 programs and hundreds of mentors are supported in their work with Alexandria youth. Mentoring is a proven national best practice that decreases the risk of crime, teen pregnancy, gang involvement, drug abuse and poor school performance. Volunteer Alexandria is in the business of helping Alexandrians give back to this City with their whole heart, through volunteering. We are matchmakers providing connections between volunteers and nonprofits or City agencies needing assistance the most.
