Volunteer COVID Vaccinator
Primary function: The Vaccinator works with the Immunization Coordinator and Nurse Manager to administer COVID 19 vaccines during the pandemic emergency.
Supervisor: Immunization Nurse Coordinator
Location: We have several vaccine clinic locations in the City of Alexandria, Fairfax County, and Arlington.
Vaccine clinics occur Monday - Saturday. Interested volunteers can either work a morning or afternoon or full day shift.
DUTIES/ RESPONSIBILITIES: (Essential Functions: Duties and responsibilities noted with bullets are the essential functions of the job).
- Works with multidisciplinary team to administer COVID 19 immunizations to patients as recommended by the Virginia Department of Health and CDC
- Responds to patient questions in coordination with medical patient care team
- Screens patients for immunization contraindications and precautions
- Provides education to patients regarding immunization risks and benefits
- Prepares vaccine for administration
- Administers vaccine to patients in high volume immunization clinic settings
- Responds to patient emergencies such as anaphylaxis or syncope
- Documents vaccines administered
Qualifications
- Evidence of physician, nurse practitioner, dentist, RN, or LPN license either current or within 5 years of expiration.
- Evidence of Completion of CDC immunization training module for vaccine to be administered
- Clinical Competency in administration of IM vaccines
- Knowledge of COVID vaccine storage and handling (training provided)
- Ability to document in electronic medical record
- Bilingual skills in Spanish or Amharic a plus.
- You exhibit any symptoms of a respiratory illness including fever, runny nose, sore throat, coughing or difficulty breathing now or in the past 24 hours.
- You have been to any places, and therefore exposed, where people have tested posted for COVID-19.
- You are at high risk of severe disease (including persons who are older than 65; have underlying heart disease or lung disease, diabetes, liver disease; are immunocompromised; on dialysis; or have severe obesity with BMI greater than 40).
- You have someone in your household who is at high risk.(including persons who are older than 65; have underlying heart disease or lung disease, diabetes, liver disease; are immunocompromised; on dialysis;, or have severe obesity with BMI greater than 40).
