MLK Day of Service 2020

The Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service inspires hundreds of thousands of Americans to come together to serve their community. Citizens in all 50 states and the District deliver meals, refurbish schools and community centers and collect food and clothing. Volunteers also recruit mentors, support job-seekers, build homes and provide other services for veterans and military families and help citizens improve their financial literacy skills. Our nation’s leaders including congressional members, governors and mayors honor Dr. King’s legacy through service projects while addressing pressing community needs.
The Northern Virginia Community College, in partnership with Volunteer Alexandria, is hosting its’ 11th annual MLK Day. There will be learning and service opportunities available for over 300 volunteers benefiting students, Alexandria residents and those experiencing homelessness in our community. It’s a "day on, not a day off”.
All volunteers will participate in one service project and one learning opportunity. We will assign volunteers according to their indicated preferences, due to room size, we cannot guarantee volunteers will have their top choice. We ask that volunteers stay for the entire scheduled time. Service opportunities that are listed as Family Projects are intended for children aged 6+ to volunteer with their parent and/or guardian.
We are seeking NEW hats, gloves, and scarfs for the homeless kits and juice box packs, bottled water packs, or multi-pack single-serve bottled juice packs for the campus pantries.
T-shirts will be given to individuals who donate hats, gloves, scarfs or drink packs.
Families are welcome.
Registration and welcome starts at 10 a.m.
