Gardening with Children in Subsidized Housing
Alexandria Redevelopment and Housing Authority (ARHA) | http://www.arha.us
If you think you'd like to grow veggies with growing kids, come join a group of 5 to 10 year olds in Tancil Court's "I Can Shine Garden" -- part of the Alexandria Redevelopment and Housing Authority's Old Town project. We meet on Thursdays at 5 p.m. While the children grow their peas, potatoes, beans, tomatoes, squash, and lots more, they also learn how to eat healthy. Knowing how to grow good food and prepare it is a life skill with lots of benefits. Plus it helps build children's knowledge base, which in turn can make them better readers! Volunteers need not have any prior vegetable garden experience.
Age Minimum (with Adult): 18+, Minimum Age:18+
