Snow Buddies Program 2018/19
The Snow Buddies Program is a volunteer program hosted and implemented by Volunteer Alexandria with the support of the City of Alexandria's Office of Aging and Senior Services of Alexandria. It is aimed at providing snow removal to low-income Alexandria's residents who are physically unable to do so themselves, cannot afford to pay for this help, and/or do not have immediate neighbors, family or friends to assist them. Volunteer Alexandria will match volunteers with eligible residents to remove snow from sidewalks after a storm in a timely fashion to avoid fines and/or snow removal charges, as well as keep them safe in case they have to get out. This program is vital for seniors who need to leave the house to get to the hospital or doctor's appointment to receive life-saving treatments such as dialysis. Please note that volunteers must use their own snow shovel. Depending on the severity of the storm, snow must be removed from sidewalks 24-72 hours after snow stops falling. After signing up, volunteers will receive more details about the program and how to proceed.
Age Minimum (with Adult): 10+, Minimum Age:15+
