Meal distribution volunteers needed
Hunger never takes a vacation and the CAFB could not nourish those in need without the assistance of volunteers. We value the contributions of the community and believes that all individuals have the ability to make a significant impact in supporting our mission. We are seeking to place 12 enthusiastic individuals for a long-term volunteer role at a new feeding program in Alexandria.
Time of Arrival: Between 8:30am to 9:00 am. Parking located on any surrounding street.
8:30 a.m.-11:00 a.m. Set up and distribution
Volunteers help to set up tables. Volunteers hang food reference signs per site coordinator’s instruction. After the food is unloaded and the driver has moved the truck, all volunteers may begin to unpack the food and help to bring it inside to the distribution site.
Setting Up the Distribution: Volunteers open and unload plastic wrap, boxes and other packaging. One or two volunteers will be assigned per pallet to unload the food and replenish the table as the supply runs out. Volunteers will be provided reusable plastic (food service type) gloves for food handling.
11:00 a.nm.-1:00 p.m. Distribution of Food:
Sign-in: As clients arrive, one volunteer will be assigned to hand one person from each household a number and record the number of people in each household on the provided data collection form.
Greeter: As clients in the line approach the door, one volunteer will direct the members of the household into the room explaining the flow of traffic.
Tables: As clients move through the room, one or two volunteers at each table should communicate the limits to the clients and help to load the products into the clients’ bags.
1:00 p.m.-1:30 p.m. Clean up
All volunteers who help with food distribution help with clean up. All food and packaging debris should be disposed of lawfully in an appropriate receptacle. If pallets will not be picked up immediately, help stack them in an appropriate location according to the site coordinator.
