Support the fight against hunger and deliver bread

The Partnership for a Healthier Alexandria and the Childhood Obesity Action Network 2014 report highlighted significant gaps in the services available to Alexandrians suffering from food hardship, which is irregular access to affordable and healthy meals. In response, community leaders, including Volunteer Alexandria, have pledged their support and leadership to fill those gaps through advocacy, financial resources and practical commitments of time, space and the volunteer labor necessary to progress toward a time when no one in our city goes hungry.

Volunteer drivers needed to pick up bread from Great Harvest Bread Company in Fairlington and deliver it to one of two locations within Alexandria on Wednesdays. Volunteers will be informed by email if there is a donation on Wednesday morning (same day) and instructions for which location to bring the donation. Volunteers must have a valid driver license and use their own vehicle. No mileage reimbursement provided. Volunteers must print out their pick up confirmation to show to the bakery staff.
