The Charles Houston Advisory Council (CHAC) is a group of community volunteers working in partnership with Rec Center staff to provide input and support for programs, facilities, and services at the Charles Houston Recreation Center. As a 501c3 organization CHAC operates in accordance with its bylaws and has an elected President, Treasurer, and Communications Secretary. We are currently seeking volunteers to fill leadership positions and/or participate in the council meetings.  We meet the 1st Wednesday of each month at 7PM at the Rec Center.

In the last year, we raised $73,000 for the development of a new teen center with expected completion in November 2017. Next steps include supporting ongoing development of teen programs and activities. 2018 tasks include establishing and recommending new programs, services, and facility changes desired by the community and soliciting continued community support for after school tutoring.

We are looking for volunteers that have interest in how the Rec Center better serves our community and in the development physically and emotionally healthy youth via diverse programs and activities. Experience with 501c3 operation, basic finance or youth development is helpful but not required. Time commitment is about 1 day a month or less depending on activity.
