Book Buddies Literacy Tutor
Through the Book Buddies Tutoring model, ATC provides volunteer-based, one-on-one sustained early literacy tutoring to City of Alexandria elementary school children in need.
Volunteers are needed work one-on-one with an Alexandria elementary school student, following a provided literacy lesson plan, to improve early literacy skills, writing, spelling and reading skills.
Some volunteers tutor a child both sessions. Other volunteers team up with a friend or colleague to meet this commitment. Book Buddies can help arrange partners if that is needed.
Tutor Program
-Students enter the program in grades K & 1 (ages 5-6) as referred by their classroom teachers.
-Volunteers register with ACPS and receive tutor training from a Book Buddies Coordinator.
-Two 30-40 minute weekly tutoring sessions are scheduled and take place during or after school
-We ask for a one school-year commitment
