Youth Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteer Alexandria’s youth program promotes civic responsibility, increases, facilitates, and recognizes community service among young people in Alexandria through volunteerism.

The youth program works with teachers (in both private and public), interacts with students in the classroom, works directly with students in finding volunteer opportunities, and cultivates nonprofit, city agencies, and faith groups that are interested in working with youth volunteers.

The main initiative of the youth program is to serve as a resource for youth in Alexandria. In order to we provide resources such as:


Big Spring Break Week 2010

The Big Spring Break Week is a service-learning initiative that matches high school student with non-profits and social service professional across the City of Alexandria to encourage students to consider public service careers, learn about a variety of service organizations, gain a greater understanding of the challenges facing the community, develop leadership skills and youth voice, as well as build the community's capacity to enact sustainable change during their week of spring break.

Youth Volunteer Internship Info and Application


The Youth Volunteer Internship allows youth to work directly with Volunteer Alexandria. We provide Alexandria youth with the opportunity to gain hands on experience working with a nonprofit while earning community service hours. Volunteer Youth interns have the ability to assist with organizing and coordinating youth service days and volunteer fairs and assisting with basic administrative duties.  We value the opinion of youth and always allow them to be creative and take initiative when working on projects.
