Ready Corps Member - 11/20/2017-09/20/2018
Volunteer Alexandria is the lead agency that educates and prepares residents, schools, organizations, and businesses for all hazards such as natural disasters and terrorist attacks. In partnership with the City’s Office of Emergency Management, we raise awareness, recruit, train, and manage volunteers to prepare and respond during these events. In the event of an emergency, we run a Volunteer Reception Center, which provides a central location where volunteers can go to assist with disaster recovery efforts. Here in Alexandria, we’ve seen terrorist's attacks, tornado outbreaks, flash floods, earthquakes, and even water main breaks and power outages that have impacted our communities for days at a time.
Ready Corps, an AmeriCorps program implemented by Points of Light, creates disaster resilient communities by increasing preparedness of individuals and families through volunteer engagement.  Ready Corps members will serve 10-month terms and will provide direct service and train volunteer leaders to recruit and educate teams of volunteers. A mandatory training will take place November 13-15, 2017 in Atlanta GA. Expenses will be covered.
